Yadkin Bank donates $2,750 for hunger relief efforts
Elizabeth City, NC – Food Bank of the Albemarle announced today that Yadkin Bank has donated $2,750 to support ongoing hunger relief efforts in northeastern North Carolina.
Executive Director Liz Reasoner expressed gratitude for the donation. “I am always humbled by the generosity of the communities we serve,” Reasoner said. “This gift from Yadkin Bank will provide 11,000 meals to hungry men, women and children.”
Nearly 60,000 people are struggling with food insecurity in our service area, 25% of which are children. Food Bank of the Albemarle works with 145 non-profit and faith-based organizations to fight hunger in 15 counties across northeastern North Carolina.
Yadkin Bank awarded the $2,750 in response to the Food Bank’s work to fight hunger in Martin and Hyde Counties. In Hyde County, 19.7% of the population is considered food insecure; in Martin County, 21.4% are food insecure. Food Bank of the Albemarle distributed 604,808 lbs. of food in both counties for the fiscal year 2015/2016, but the need is still great.
Stuart Bell, Market President of the Outer Banks Region for Yadkin Bank, commented on the impact of the award. “Yadkin Bank is proud to partner with Food Bank of the Albemarle,” Bell said. “We’re committed to helping organizations like the food bank continue to do great work in their communities.”
