Perdue Farms’ Donation Addresses Holiday Hunger

Food Bank of the Albemarle is pleased to announce that Perdue Farms has generously donated 40,000 lbs. of chicken drumsticks to help feed hungry families across 15 counties in northeast North Carolina. This contribution from Perdue will provide much-needed protein to clients through 145 programs, including food pantries, mobile food pantries and soup kitchens located in the Food Bank’s service area.

“Perdue Farms is an essential partner in the Food Bank’s mission to fight hunger,” said Executive Director Liz Reasoner. “This donation of protein comes at a time of year when many individuals and families are struggling to pay essential bills and heat their homes. We are incredibly grateful of Perdue’s commitment to fight hunger this year and beyond.”

During the holiday season, donations from the Food Bank’s community partners and food drives help ensure that people in need continue to get the nourishing meals they need, and are able to provide enough food for their families.

“We’re once again proud to partner with the Food Bank of the Albemarle in a shared mission to help those struggling with hunger in eastern North Carolina, including through its mobile pantry program in Bertie County,” said Jeff Staff’s, director of Perdue operations in Lewiston, N.C. “At Perdue, we believe that in a country as rich in resources as ours, no one should have to go hungry.”

Food Bank of the Albemarle and Perdue partnered earlier this year to launch a new mobile food pantry distribution serving residents of the Lewiston-Woodville, Kelford and Roxobel areas of Bertie County. The mobile food pantry is being funded by a $10,000 grant from The Franklin P. and Arthur W. Perdue Foundation. The first mobile pantry distribution began in June, and has served over 150 households per month since the launch.
