As you may already know, Congress is working on reauthorizing the Farm Bill this year, and Food Bank of the Albemarle and Feeding America are concerned that the federal nutrition programs are at risk.
The House Agriculture Committee is poised to release a Farm Bill draft in the next few weeks, and rumors are that the bill will propose deep cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
Significant cuts to the program would hurt people who are already struggling to make ends meet and put overwhelming pressure on our network and partners. Now is the time to make our voice heard in support of the programs like SNAP that are essential building blocks to a better life for people facing hunger.
Food Bank of the Albemarle encourages you to share your voice with Congress by signing Feeding America’s letter calling for robust federal nutrition programs. We need your support to make this the largest sign-on letter in the history of Feeding America. You can find the sign-on letter here, as well as additional materials. I ask that you participate and sign in this important event, and together we can we send a strong and powerful message to members of Congress that programs such as SNAP are essential to millions of Americans.
