Emergency Preparedness & Disaster Relief

southmills-andrewlilley-01Food Bank of the Albemarle is prepared to handle disaster situations, and work directly with local emergency management operations in providing food, water, and hygiene items during crisis situations. The Food Bank also developed a Disaster Preparedness Plan with the Food Bank of Central and Eastern NC (FBCENC). If a situation arises, such as the recent flooding from Hurricane Matthew, FBENC and Food Bank of the Albemarle share resources and communicate needs so that we can concentrate on helping victims of the storm.

County Emergency Operations Plans have been developed to address multiple hazards, which might threaten the counties/cities of northeast North Carolina.  The Food Bank of the Albemarle is an important component in disaster relief efforts in our area, as was evidenced in Spring 2011 when serious tornado damage occurred across Bertie County.  In that case alone, over 42,000 pounds of food and other products were provided by FBA over a period of just 30 days. In the wake of Hurricane Matthew in October of 2016, Food Bank of the Albemarle responded by distributing 219,768 lbs. of food, water and supplies across 10 of the counties we serve.

101416-disasterrelief-01Natural disasters create a desperate and long-term crisis for those affected. The Food Bank and other relief organizations work as a team to bring help and comfort to people suffering the effects of these disasters. Financial contributions and food donations will help ensure the Food Bank is able to provide the necessary emergency food assistance to our partner agencies for distribution to our families in need should an emergency situation arise.

Cash donations to recognized relief organizations are completely tax deductible.
