Elizabeth City – Food Bank of the Albemarle will be able to provide more meals this holiday season thanks to generous donors that gave to The FM99 and 106.9 The Fox 27th Annual Mayflower Marathon food drive.

The annual food drive took place simultaneously at five locations across southeastern Virginia Friday, Nov. 17th through Sunday, Nov. 19th. This year marked the first time that Food Bank of the Albemarle participated in the annual drive with a location at the Moyock Welcome Center.

The total food and funds collected will be able to provide over 20,000 meals, according to the Food Bank. All donations collected at the Welcome Center benefit Food Bank of the Albemarle and hunger-relief programs in North Carolina.

“We are thankful to everyone for their support of our first year participating in the Mayflower Marathon,” said Liz Reasoner, Executive Director, Food Bank of the Albemarle. “Too many families across Northeast North Carolina are struggling to keep food on their tables. Thanks to the sponsors and the community this year we can help make people’s lives better and build healthy, hunger-free communities for all.”

“Thank you to all that came out to donate food and funds, which will provide meals this holiday season and beyond,” said Diana Flippo, Director of Development, Food Bank of the Albemarle. “We’d also like to thank the Moyock Welcome Center for hosting the Food Bank and helping us make the event a success!”

Carol Commander, General Manager of WNOR and WAFX: “The shelves at the Foodbank are overflowing with much needed donations thanks to the support of our generous listeners and client partners.  The FM99 and 106.9 The Fox 27th Annual Mayflower Marathon will create more than 756,000 meals! Thanks to the Foodbanks and everyone who made a donation for helping to feed Hampton Roads!”
