Food Bank Awarded $10K from Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation for Hunger Relief

Feeding the Hungry grant increases access to nutritious food; provides nutrition education

Food Bank of the Albemarle has received a $10,000 grant award from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation to help support child hunger feeding programs. The Feeding the Hungry grant supports community feeding partners by helping neighbors increase their access to nutritious food and providing nutrition education to eliminate health risks for those experiencing food insecurity.

This grant will provide support for the Food Bank’s child hunger programs to nourish and provide essential meals to families in the Food Bank’s 15-county region. Across northeastern NC, 1 in 4 (over 14,700) experience food insecurity. Programs to help provide meals and culturally responsive foods help the Food Bank continue these critical programs.

This award will enable the Food Bank to provide over 30,000 meals.

The Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation is committed to supporting families facing food insecurity across its 10-state footprint. Established in 2001, the foundation provides financial support for programs and organizations dedicated to feeding local neighbors in the communities it serves.
