Interested in becoming a Food Bank partner agency?

Thank you for your interest in becoming a Hunger Relief Partner with Food Bank of the Albemarle. Please review the requirements and process for becoming and maintaining membership outlined below: 

Minimum Requirements for all partners: 

  • Organizations must be a recognized charity with a feeding program serving the needy, ill and infants.
  • Organizations must be a 501 (c) 3 not-for-profit, tax-exempt organization, with a determination letter from IRS, an accredited church or be part of a nutrition, education or service program operated by the city, county or state.
  • There must be a need for a hunger relief program in your area.
  • Agencies will not engage in discrimination in the provision of service against any person based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity (including gender expression), sexual orientation, disability, age, marital status, family/parental status, income derived from a public assistance program, political beliefs, or reprisal or retaliation for prior civil rights activity.
  • Organization must have appropriate physical capacity to receive and distribution food.
  • Organization must have adequate staff or volunteers to support the hunger relief program.
  • Organizations must have a budget to support the hunger relief program.
  • Organization must have a board of directors.

Application Review & Follow-up: All applications are reviewed within 10 business days from date of submission. Once the application is reviewed, an FBA Agency Relations Manager will contact the organization to share the status of the application. Approved organizations will be asked to submit information on required documentation.

  • After an organization submits the required documentation, an FBA staff member will contact the organization to schedule an initial site visit.
  • If an organization is eligible for partnership based of the required documentation submitted and site visit, they must complete:  
    • Food Safety Training
    • Civil Rights Training
    • Agency Express Training
    • New Partner Agency Orientation 
  • Once an organization completes the required trainings and orientation, they will be given a partnership agreement that must be signed and returned to FBA. Once an organization returns the signed partnership agreement and pays the $250.00 annual membership fee, the organization is officially recognized as a partner agency and is eligible to access food from Foodbank of the Albemarle.

Monthly Training Schedule Call Date

Agency Call: This is a safe space zoom meeting that we give all agency relation updates and for agencies to share any thoughts, concerns, or compliments.
2nd Tuesday of every month 12-1pm – Zoom
Agency Orientation: This is an in-person meeting located at our headquarters for all onboarding agencies and existing agencies that has a change in board, staff, or volunteers. This date and time also includes Retail Donation Training and Oasis Training. We normally set the last hour or so of the orientation to perform Oasis Training. 2nd Thursday of each month 9am-11am – In person

IMPORTANT UPDATE TO TEFAP DISTRIBUTIONS

  • TEFAP Application – Mobile Distributions-Updated October 1, 2020
  • Regulations require participants to complete and sign the TEFAP application to confirm eligibility and to receive TEFAP foods. Until further notice, TEFAP agencies/pantries will be allowed to assign a representative to complete the TEFAP applications and sign for participants when they come to pick up TEFAP packages.
  • It is also recommended that if and when possible to allow mobile drive through distributions, where participants can stay in their vehicles. An agency representative will be allowed to complete the application process with the participant one on one and the packages be brought out to the participants vehicle.
  • Encourage participants that are high risk to utilize a proxy to pick up their TEFAP package.

Delivery Fee:

Many of our partner agencies receive their monthly food orders via the Rural Delivery Program. Over the past few years, the delivery fee per pound of food has been set at $0.05/lb. Due to the COVID19 pandemic FBA adjusted delivery fees in order to serve as many clients as possible. Currently delivery fees are placed at $0.04/lb for all product except produce, which is free.
