- SNAP benefits will continue through October and WIC remains operational, but both could be at risk if the shutdown continues.
- TEFAP (federal food) already ordered will still arrive, but future shipments are uncertain.
- These challenges come on top of the loss of state funding for local food purchases from North Carolina farmers—funding that has supported food banks for 30 years.
What this means for our community: demand on our Sentara Client Choice Food Pantry & Neighborhood Hub and on the 100+ partner pantries and agencies we serve across 15 counties will increase just as food supplies tighten.
