The Food Bank of the Albemarle’s mission is to fight hunger in the 15 counties we serve. With over 12% of people in northeastern North Carolina struggling with hunger, the need is greater than ever. Food Bank of the Albemarle serves as a regional clearinghouse for donated food, which is distributed to 100 hunger relief partners, operating 155 unique programs throughout our 15-county service area. Food and Nutrition Services (FNS)
Food Bank of the Albemarle has on-site staff that can assist you information on SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, formerly known as the Food Stamps program) and help with applying for benefits.
Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP)
The Food Bank’s CSFP program provides boxes of nutritious food for seniors age 60 and older living in northeastern NC. The boxes can be picked up during regular pantry hours at the Albemarle Food Pantry, and at various sites across the region during the month.
Local Food Assistance Programs
Food Bank of the Albemarle serves a 9,000+ square mile area in northeastern North Carolina. Across the 15 counties we serve, there are over 100 hunger relief partners including food pantries, mobile food pantries, soup kitchens, adult and child care centers, after school programs, juvenile and senior citizen residential programs and shelters. Mobile Food Pantries
The Food Bank works directly with hunger relief partners across 15 counties to distribute food to families facing food insecurity. In some areas, a Mobile Food Pantry is needed as the distance to the nearest agency is too far.
Backpack Programs
Backpacks are filled with nutritious, kid-friendly food that is distributed to children to take home on the weekend. This program is designed to ensure children that might go without have access to healthy food over the weekend.
Produce to People
Produce to People is comprised of two programs that deliver fresh produce as a supplement to The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP ). We’re always exploring ways that we can provide fresh produce to our clients.
