Elizabeth City, NC – Food Bank of the Albemarle is pleased to announce a $75,000 donation from Publix Super Markets Charities to for support of emergency food acquisition including child and senior programs, throughout Northeastern North Carolina.
This grant award will enable the Food Bank to provide over 225,000 nutritious meals across our region. The rising costs of housing, food, and essential medicine have greatly impacted everyone in our 15-county service area. The number of food-insecure neighbors has increased to more than 46,440 (1 in 6 people, including 13,900 food-insecure children).
“The Food Bank is honored to receive this grant award of $75,000 from Publix Super Markets Charities to support our hunger relief programs,” said Liz Reasoner, Executive Director of Food Bank of the Albemarle. “Rising inflation and the cost of food are having a tremendous impact on the neighbors we serve. This grant will enable us to continue to source the freshest produce, lean protein, and culturally responsive foods for everyone in our region.”
“At Publix, we believe providing food for our neighbors in need is our greatest opportunity to give back and doing so is at the heart of our philanthropic efforts,” said Publix CEO Kevin Murphy. “We’re also grateful to Publix Super Markets Charities for its continued commitment to helping people experiencing food insecurity. Publix and Publix Charities’ continued work with food banks across the Southeast provide vital resources and nourishment to better the lives of individuals in our communities.”
The $75,000 donation from Publix Super Markets Charities to Food Bank of the Albemarle is one of several donations made this year to help provide food and other essential support to people facing hunger.
